Is the distance between clusters relevant?

Yes, it is. The distance from the cluster in the center to the rest is related to the distance between centroids. The fact that some clusters are closer to others (e.g., the dark blue in the center and the pink one) tells us that those centroids are also closer to each other. Nevertheless, the distance between other clusters that are not compared to the one in the center is not relevant, e.g., we do not know whether the dark purple cluster and the red one are close to each other.
